Gilbert Shilton

In 1979, Gil began his freelance directing career shooting primetime network episodic television programs, pilots and miniseries. In 1985, he sold his first network writing assignment. Since then Shilton has logged close to 300 hours directing film and television. His directing assignments have taken him all over the English-speaking world. In the process, Gilbert Shilton has garnered numerous award nominations, and has sold both film and episodic screenplays to the major networks, production companies and studios.

Gilbert Shilton, a Canadian and US citizen, has been working in the film and television industry for over thirty-five years. In the course of his career, he's worked on just about every discipline, from crew technician to assistant director to cameraman to a three-year stint as a television, film and theatre actor.


In the last 12 years, Gilbert Shilton has added "collegiate lecturer to film and television MFA graduates" to his credits. His guest and full semester lecturing assignments have taken him to Canada, France, Russia, Turkey and Qatar, as well as throughout the United States.
